Weed walk at La Paix July 10

PLANTS in our Environment, Food, Medicine or Weeds!

Healing with plants is a practice with ancient roots. Many of the most useful and powerful medicine plants are all around us in our daily life, such as oaks, pines, berries, common flowers, lambs quarter, plantain, and many others. Some we know as ornamental while most people just call the plants weeds.

Much of this plant information is gathered from personal experience, the experience of many others, talks with herbalists and 'curanderas/os' (Mexican healers), shamans of Peru, Bolivia, Panama, and from Dr. James Duke Author of The Green Pharmacy, plus the growing field of native plant healing research.

We will take a walk around the area and search for spring, summer and fall wild edibles and discuss what they will look like during the entire growing season. We will also discuss why we would want to gather wild plants and how to cultivate them for our gardens. We will also give you suggested about books and internet sites and a great CD that a friend has put together. 5846 plus pages of info, including some recipes. If you have any recipes you want to share with others bring your favorites. We suggest you bring a walking stick, notepad and camera/recorder. We might even make some tea or cook up a little delight we brought back from our Peru trip this past Oct/Nov 2007 or Panama in 2009 and 2010.

We also will talk a little about the healing properties of Essential Oils, for more information see my web site at www.chiropractichealth.org then go to essential oils page. Also lots of info on my facebook page. David Ahrend DC

Kale chips

Healthy eating tips

RECIPE OF THE MONTH – RAW KALE CHIPS

Ingredients

A few bunches of kale
¾ cups sesame seeds
¼ cup Braggs Liquid Aminos
½ cup apple cider vinegar (Braggs is great)
½ cup water (more if needed)
2 scallion (if desired)
1 clove garlic
1 lemon, juiced
¼ t. sea salt
¼ cup fresh parsley (if desired)

Directions:

Place sesame seeds and liquids in blender and let the seeds soak (for a few hours would be nice, but if just while you get the kale ready it will still turn out well).

Take the kale chips and either cut the stems off or pull the leaves off the stems and set them in a big mixing bowl.

Add the rest of ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth to get a thick consistency. Pour over kale and mix thoroughly with your hands to coat the kale. Place the kale onto a Teflex sheet, on top of a mesh dehydrator screen, and dehydrate for 4 hours @ 110 degrees. You'll need to use more than 1 tray! You will know when they are done because they will be crunchy. If they are still soft, put them back in!

chiropractic health and nutrition

Nutrition is an important part of your total health as much as a healthy nervous system and communication from the brain to the body and back to the brain.
